Geneva Street Food Festival

September 30, 2015

After the Zurich Street Food Festival I went to, I searched for any food festival in Switzerland and apparently I found Geneva Street Food Festival from 18-20 of September. It’s been a long time for me since I visited Geneva, so I might as well spend my day there. After convincing my friend that it will be a different and very local kind of experience, we went to Geneva on the 18 of September. The food festival starts at 5 pm and we were in Geneva from 7 am! There are many things to see and explore for the first-timer in Geneva, but my friend and I been to Geneva quite a few times. I thought there will be nothing in the Friday morning because most of the stores in Switzerland starts to open at 9 am, but there’s a fresh market in Avenue Henri-Dunant (if I’m not wrong). They sell fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, cheeses, bread and etc.

One of my favorite place to go in Geneva is Payot, a bookstore where you can chill and where all the staffs are the friendliest.

Although I’ve been to Geneva, there are some places that are new to me such as Parc de Bastions. This park is just like a normal park but with the big-size chess and checker that you can play.

Jet d’Eau is definitely had to be on your list to see. The large fountain has become the landmark and logo of the city itself. So to prove that you’ve been to Geneva, take a picture with the fountain.

Anyway, talking about the food festival itself, I was disappointed to be honest. It wasn’t as crowded or busy as the Zurich one. Maybe because I went to the first day of Geneva Street Food Festival. Actually, I was also having a mild stomachache (food poisoning from the day before I went to Geneva) and I was extremely picky with my food. Based on my observation, compare to Zurich food festival, Geneva is more health concern and selling salad, pureed vegetables and stuff.

After roaming around to decide which food stand/truck we will go first, I saw the awesome tequeños and I’m pretty sure it’s by the same people in Zurich Street Food Festival. Without any hesitation, I bought four tequeños for CHF 10.- and it was a delicious Venezuelan snack as the one that I tried in Zurich. I wouldn’t say it’s a cheese sticks because I feel it’s more than that. Visit their website www.auyan.ch.

For the main course, we were quite convinced that pork ribs with rice will be very tasty and satisfying. We even agreed to wait for the rice to be cooked because we came very early to the food festival. I didn’t like the ribs as its too bitter for me even though the meat of the ribs are really smooth and silky. For three small ribs and rice, I paid CHF 13.-. You can visit their website www.pigme.ch.

Lastly, we ate Nachos from Deli Mex stand. This time, the nachos was served with salsa, cheese, and sour cream à la Mexicaine. It was so delicious, a bit spicy, but it’s the right amount of spiciness that you need in that nachos (CHF 5.-).

Feeling that my friend and I had enough with the food, we decided to go back. Only if I feel better and hungry, I bet that I will have difference perspective of Geneva Street Food Festival.
