One of the reasons I traveled to Salzburg is because of the famous film of The Sound of Music. I’m sure you all know this musical movie that just melted everyone’s heart. After the delicious meal I had in Cafe Bazar, I went to the Sound of Music Tour with Panorama Tour in Salzburg. Panorama Tour located just outside the Mirabell Garden and you can just go straight to the counter without any reservation in advance. Panorama Tour has many kinds of tour (not just The Sound of Music), but The Sound of Music is the most popular one. I paid € 40.- for the Original Sound of Music Tour – Tour 1A that includes of visiting four settings of Sound of Music movie. The duration of the tour is four hours, which makes it quite fast-paced (because all the locations are far from each other).

The tour’s transportation is by bus. There are also some places such as Von Trapp house, the abbey (where Maria wanted to become a nun), but the bus didn’t stop as those are private properties. So you can only take the picture from the bus, and from afar.

Leopoldskron Palace

Leopoldskron Palace is the first stop of the tour. The palace is used for the Von Trapp backyard (only the backyard) and the boating scene. The building is very pretty as well as the lake. We were not allowed to get inside the house as it’s a private property (I think it’s a hotel).

The Sound of Music Pavilion, Hellbrunn Palace

“I am sixteen, going on seventeen…,” I bet you remember the song. The gazebo is in Hellbrunn Palace but sadly is not allowed to be enter anymore. Hellbrunn Palace is a big estate with acres of park for hunting. As I said before that the tour is a fast-paced tour, in each site, we are only able to wander around for 15 minutes. So, get your camera and pose ready.

Salzburg Lake District Area – St. Gilgen

In here, it is not part of the Sound of Music setting but it is one of the most beautiful scenery from the uphill. You can see the St. Gilgen village.

Mondsee Cathedral – Wedding Chapel

The cathedral in Mondsee is not just a normal cathedral, it’s where Maria and Captain Von Trapp got married! Apart from the grand interior, it is also quite a creepy church with baby angels head attached in the wall. I’m not gonna post the picture of the baby’s head, though. After touring inside the cathedral, it is a must to try the apfelstrudel (apple strudel) in here as the tour guide said it was the best.

Mirabell Palace and Garden

The tour didn’t include Mirabell Palace and garden, but they are one of the settings of The Sound of Music too (where they sing Do-Re-Mi). You can check out my picture of Mirabell here.

What I like about this tour is the very friendly and humorous tour guide. He is anything but boring. I forgot the name of the tour guide but makes sure to tip the tour guide and the driver! Oh, and they open from Monday-Sunday from 8am – 6pm. Just to be sure, check out their website.
