Jakarta: Introduction

March 25, 2018
Jakarta Indonesia Michelle Franc-Lee

I want to talk about my beloved hometown, Jakarta. Been having this love-hate relationship with Jakarta. I hate the traffic, I hate the pollution, I hate how everyone’s rushing everything like 24 hours never enough. Hate is a strong word, I know. On the other side, it is where I was born and grew up. After long voyage away (due to my studies), I always wanting to come back. Nothing can beat the feeling of returning back to home.

Jakarta

These days, I am based in Jakarta (due to my job) and commuting almost everyday. I found Jakarta even more fascinating and got a lot of stories to tell. There are sides and corners of Jakarta that I just discovered or haven’t explored yet. Once again, I am not a storyteller nor a good writer, but I’m eager show you my hometown through pictures. I want to make this into a little insight of Jakarta, the unfiltered one. Still don’t know how I will do it, but we’ll figure that out along the way. Hopefully this will be a tiny project of mine that I can share to y’all. The real purpose of this project is still not clear, apart from me wanting to show you around. Am I gonna focus on the people, places, food, traffic? Who knows?

Am I gonna do B&W, colors or sepia? Still don’t know too. I am definitely more comfortable doing it in colours but there’s something about black and white that makes everything intense, something je ne sais quoi. Will I talk about commuting? How to use trains, taxi, Gojek? Nothing absolute in this project, heck I don’t even know the proper title for this. I just know that it will centered around Jakarta and it will involve a lot of photography. Mainly street photography, I guess.

Oh, I am open to suggestion, on what you want to know or see in Jakarta. You can leave it in the comment section below and I’ll try my best to capture it.
