There’s this term or saying in Indonesian, if you say “Bali rasa Swiss” the literal translation is Bali taste/feels like Swiss. It doesn’t make sense. It’s like saying “oh, this part of Bali seems and feels like Switzerland”. In this post, I will show you where you can go in Bali if you want to get that Swiss feeling.

Itinerary

I started from Denpasar and went to the Bali Botanical Garden first in the morning. They open at 8 am. Getting there early is best because you want to avoid the crowd. Still in the same area, you should go to this viewpoint to see the Twin Lakes in Bedugul. There’s nothing you can do other than sightseeing there. There’s some waterfalls nearby, and you can continue your journey by staycation in Munduk. Because this is just a one-day trip for me, I drive back to the south. Before going back to Denpasar, I visited Swiss Chalet and Grill in Ubud. Having a cheese fondue or raclette for lunch to end the day trip.

  • 6:30 am = Drive from Denpasar to Bedugul
  • 8 am = Visit Bali Botanical Garden
  • 11 am = Visit Twin Lakes view point
  • 11:30 am = Drive to Swiss Chalet and Grill in Ubud
  • 13:00 pm = Lunch at Swiss Chalet and Grill
  • 15:00 pm = Take a walk at Campuhan Ridge, Ubud
  • 17:00 pm = Drive back to Denpasar

Bali Botanical Garden, Bedugul

The first stop is Bali Botanical Garden in Bedugul. I love botanical gardens so much and I was shocked with how long it took for me to visit this one. Bali Botanical Garden is the largest botanical garden in Indonesia. Although I feel like Kebun Raya Cibodas in West Java is slightly bigger than this. There are many reasons to love this place. You can see the lake from this botanical garden. You can rent an e-bike and go around the botanical garden easily. When I was there, I saw a gathering of German Shepherd owners, and they were having a picnic. Time can easily pass by when you’re here.

  • Entry fee: Rp25.000
  • Motorbike parking fee: Rp10.000
  • Electric motorbike rental: Rp60.000/hour

Twin lakes in Bedugul

Do you know about the famous Interlaken in Switzerland? Interlaken is a town, located in between two lakes, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. In Bali, we also have a twin lake called Lake Tamblingan and Lake Buyan. There’s actually a third lake in Bedugul, called Lake Beratan. But the two lakes that are close to each other is similar to the ones in Switzerland. The only difference is that there’s no town like Interlaken in between.

It only takes 20-30 minute ride, if you’re going to see the twin lakes after the botanical garden. You can see the map below to see the viewpoint I recommend. My plan for my next trip here I will stay in Munduk

Swiss Chalet and Grill, Ubud

This is where I had my late lunch/early dinner after visiting Bedugul. Ubud is located just right in between Bedugul and Denpasar. It is a perfect stop for me to find food. Ubud is also very well-known for it’s food scene. You can find any dishes around the world and they do it well. I used to live near Gruyères, the hometown of Gruyère cheese. So I know quite well about cheese fondue and raclette. By far, this is the best Swiss restaurant I’ve ever visited outside of Switzerland. I have never seen an interior almost the same as the one in Switzerland!

You can read more about Swiss Chalet and Grill Ubud here.

Campuhan Ridge Walk

Campuhan Ridge Walk is very popular among tourists and locals. This is a short trek in Ubud, that will take you through a peaceful, green walk. There’s no entrance fee and you can start from the north or south entrance. It took me around 30-40 minutes one way. You can hear the sound of the river, birds, and wind. I recommend that you not use your headphones while doing this walk. If you start from the south (near the main road) you can see the river from the bridge. Along the way, you can also do the famous swing. If you parked your vehicle at one of the entrances, you will need to walk back to get it. Or you can get a Grab/Gojek. I allocated 1-1.5 hours for this walk.
